Update: A Georgia judge has sentenced Joshua Allen, 42, to 11 years in prison for the brutal killing of his fiancée’s puppy, Pretty, an act captured on residential surveillance cameras. Allen was found guilty of aggravated cruelty to animals, and the sentence reflects the severity of the attack, which police described as deliberate and violent.

The attack was witnessed in real time by Allen’s fiancée on her cellphone, prompting police to respond immediately. Officers later discovered the puppy’s remains inside a trash bag in Allen’s vehicle.

Officials said the sentencing serves as a warning to potential abusers that acts of extreme animal cruelty will carry serious legal consequences.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – A Sandy Springs man has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after police say he violently attacked and killed his fiancée’s dog following a phone argument.

Authorities said Joshua Allen, 42, was taken into custody on the night of Feb. 13 after his fiancée accessed home surveillance footage and watched the live stream of the attack while driving home.

According to an interview with Sgt. Leon Millholland obtained by Fox 5 Atlanta: “She saw on her phone through the video surveillance system him picking up a dog by the neck, strangling the dog, and then holding the dog down on the porch and stabbing it to death.”

According to investigators, Allen was then seen on video pouring bleach on the deck in an attempt to wash away the blood. Surveillance footage also captured Allen making threats to harm his fiancée while on the phone with another individual. “He makes the statement to the effect that if she calls the cops, he’s gonna hit her in the head with his hatchet,” said Sgt. Millholland.

Police were contacted immediately, and officers arrested Allen as he attempted to leave the residence. Officers later discovered the dog’s remains inside a trash bag in Allen’s vehicle.

Authorities said Allen has a prior history of violence and was on probation at the time of the incident. He is now facing charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, tampering with evidence, and making terroristic threats.

The case has drawn attention to the link between animal abuse and domestic violence. Georgia lawmakers are considering legislation that would allow judges to include pets in temporary protective orders for domestic abuse victims.

Allen remains in custody at the Fulton County Jail without bond as the investigation continues.
