Update #2: Per the Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, the cause of death for the victim was from a drug overdose. Questions regarding that determination should be directed to the Dekalb Medical Examiner’s Office.
Update #1: This deceased has been identified as 33-year-old John Mitchell. This case remains
active.
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – On August 19, 2024, at 4:03pm, officers were dispatched to the area of I 285 EB at Chamblee Dunwoody Rd in reference to a welfare check. The caller indicated they saw a person on the ground and not moving the grassy area of the intersection. Officers arrived on scene and confirmed there was 33-year-old male who was deceased.
Detectives from Dunwoody Police Department and the Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived on scene and took over the investigation. The medical examiner took custody of the deceased for an autopsy. There are currently no indications of foul play, and this investigation remains active.
The name of the deceased will be released at a later time once proper family notifications have been made.
