Man mauled to death by 3 pit bulls while walking down street, police say

MACON COUNTY, Ga. – Police in a middle Georgia town say two pit bulls believed to be involved in a deadly attack on a man over the weekend have been found.

The Oglethorpe Police Department said Raphael Woolfork was walking down the street Saturday morning when he was attacked by three pit bulls. Investigators said a Good Samaritan intervened and drove Woolfork to a nearby location so emergency medical crews could reach him.

While being treated by EMS, Woolfork appeared to go into cardiac arrest and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died, according to police.

Police said Tuesday that two of the dogs connected to the attack have been located and taken to a secure location. Investigators did not say whether the third dog has been found or whether any charges are expected.

Authorities urged residents to remain cautious when encountering unfamiliar animals or unknown individuals while the investigation remains active. Police are also asking anyone who may have photos or video of the attack to contact the Oglethorpe Police Department.
