WALKER COUNTY, Ga. – A Walker County man has been sentenced to remain in prison until 2093 or his death, whichever comes first, after a jury convicted him of setting a woman on fire and kidnapping another woman after shooting her dog.

Jarvis Jackson, 43, of LaFayette, was found guilty of aggravated assault, three counts of aggravated battery, aggravated animal cruelty, family violence aggravated assault, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

A judge handed down the sentence last week following the jury’s conviction.

Lookout Mountain Judicial District Attorney Clayton Fuller detailed the crimes against two separate women on Monday.

In the first case, evidence showed Jackson assaulted his longtime girlfriend, doused her in rubbing alcohol, and set her on fire in early 2024. Temporarily blinded from her injuries, the victim staggered to a neighbor’s home on Feb. 3, 2024, pleading for help while suffering severe facial injuries and extensive burns, according to Fuller.

With the support of friends, family and advocates, she later detailed years of abuse and identified Jackson as her attacker. She testified at trial.

In the second case, just months after marrying a different woman in May 2024, Jackson woke his new wife on Aug. 18, 2024, by spitting on her and accusing her of infidelity, Fuller said. He then retrieved a pistol and shot her dog as it lay on its bed.

Still armed, Jackson forced his wife into a vehicle, threatening to kill her and her adult son if police were called, according to the district attorney. After several hours, they returned home, where Jackson made her help clean the blood and dispose of the bedding before he fled to relatives in Alabama.

The victim reported the incident to the LaFayette Police Department two days later.
