COWETA COUNTY, Ga. – A Newnan man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after prosecutors said he spent more than two decades violently controlling, terrorizing and abusing his wife throughout their 24-year marriage.

Coweta County District Attorney Herb Cranford said Jason Tyrone Bryant, 49, routinely beat his wife and tightly controlled nearly every aspect of her life, including her movements, communications and finances.

The abuse came to law enforcement’s attention on Sept. 7, 2024, when one of Bryant’s daughters called 911. Another child told her that Bryant was “punching their mother and dragging her around the house,” prosecutors said. Deputies found the woman with multiple bruises and a ruptured eardrum.

A judge later ordered Bryant to have no contact “absolutely, directly and indirectly, by person, telephone, messenger or any other means of communication” with his wife and children, and the victim obtained a protective order. Bryant violated the orders anyway, according to the district attorney.

Bryant ultimately pleaded guilty to terroristic threats, aggravated stalking, third-degree cruelty to children, three counts of aggravated assault–family violence and two counts of aggravated battery–family violence.

A Coweta County judge sentenced him to 25 years in prison, followed by five years on probation.
