The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on January 24, 2024:
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – At the request of the MARTA Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Atlanta, GA. One man was injured in the incident. One officer was injured in this incident.
The preliminary information indicates on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at about 11:00 a.m., MARTA P.D. officers responded to a stabbing incident outside of the Five Points MARTA Station. An officer observed the man stabbing two people with a knife.
The officer fired his gun, hitting the man. The man and the two victims were all taken to Grady Hospital in critical condition. The officer was also taken to Grady for injuries sustained to his head and hands.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
