COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. – A 16-year-old girl reported missing from Clayton County was rescued Monday from her alleged trafficker at a Comfort Inn and Suites in Grovetown, authorities said.
Monica Daughtery, 41, of Augusta, was taken into custody at the hotel at 4071 Jimmie Dyess Parkway. She faces multiple charges of human trafficking for sexual servitude, including maintaining, transporting, and profiting financially from a person. Daughtery, who works as a cleaner, was also cited for driving with a suspended license and for having no insurance.
The case is part of an ongoing investigation by the Georgia Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit, a division of the Attorney General’s Office. The victim had been reported missing from Clayton County in August 2025.
The Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit, established in 2019 with support from Governor Brian Kemp, First Lady Marty Kemp, and the Georgia General Assembly, has secured more than 60 convictions and helped over 200 children escape trafficking situations. The unit operates under the Attorney General’s Prosecution Division, which also includes the Gang Prosecution Unit, White Collar and Cyber Crime Unit, and the Organized Retail Crime Unit, with offices in Atlanta, Macon, and Augusta.
Authorities did not release additional information about the victim’s condition or whereabouts following her rescue.
