WAYNE COUNTY, Ga. – A 32-year-old Jesup woman faces three felony counts of second-degree child cruelty after Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies responded to her residence on March 15, 2024, because she was locked out. The caller told the deputies they would find methamphetamine at the home; however, they failed to locate any.
While searching for the meth, they observed deplorable conditions inside the residence, which housed three juveniles. The deputies observed human and animal feces and urine covering the floor and feces smeared on the walls of a child’s room.
The toilet was unusable and filled with urine and feces. The refrigerator contained rotten food and roaches, and roaches were running all over the home.
One of the juveniles told the deputies they had not eaten lunch or dinner that day.
Records revealed that deputies had responded to the residence numerous times in the past regarding complaints and allegations of inappropriate conduct in the presence of children. There were also instances of alleged threats and domestic violence.
Out of concern for the wellbeing of the children, the deputies notified DFCS of the situation and arrested Brittany Herrman. This case is pending in court.
