Warning: The following report describes violence against/neglect of humans and animals.
FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. – Floyd County Police officers responded to a Pine View Way residence on January 12, 2024, regarding animal abuse and found 67 starving dogs and a wheelchair-bound, double amputee Navy veteran inside the feces-covered home. Officials revealed that individuals would “pour cleaning solution” on the amputee.
After investigators discovered two partially buried deceased canines in the yard, mother and son, Cherry Lynn Walker and Neil Andrew Klopsch, sobbed and pleaded with them not to enter the home “and take their dogs,” according to WSB-TV 2 Atlanta. Police described Klopsch as having canine feces smeared all over his sandals and pajama pants.
Upon entry, officers needed to wear protective gear and respirators because the toxicity of the ammonia smell was so strong. Cockroaches scattered across the ceilings and walls, and the floors were caked with four inches of feces.
Dogs roamed freely throughout the home, and others were locked in cages, some with no water or food. Authorities observed one dog in labor and another with a litter of puppies. Some dogs were ill and suffered from eye infections and skin rashes.
The disabled Navy veteran’s identity has not yet been disclosed, and officials have not revealed the fate of the dogs.
Officers arrested 71-year-old Walker and 48-year-old Klopsch on January 24, 2024.
Walker faces charges of 67 counts of aggravated animal cruelty and neglect to a disabled adult, elder person, or resident, and Klopsch was charged with 67 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, exploitation and intimidation of disabled adults, elder persons, and residents, and obstruction of an investigation. This case is pending in court.
