DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – Based on author John D. MacDonald’s novel “The Executioners,” a new remake of the thriller “Cape Fear” is set to begin production in the Peach State. The 10-episode Apple TV+ series features actors Amy Adams, Steve Bowden, and Javier Bardem; Adams and Bowden portray a married couple who become terrorized by a dangerous figure from their past, played by Bardem.

The intensely thrilling drama depicts a convicted murderer who gets released from confinement and wreaks havoc on their lives. “Cape Fear,” originally slated for production in North Carolina, will start filming at Assembly Studios in Doraville, Georgia.

Industry legends Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg will executive produce the series, which has been described as having a Hitchcock feel. Nick Antosca, who executive produced “The Act” and “Candy,” is listed as executive producer and showrunner, and Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, and Alex Hedlund are additional executive producers.

“Cape Fear” was adapted into a movie in 1962 with Lori Martin, Robert Mitchum, and Gregory Peck, and then again in 1991, featuring Robert DeNiro, Jessica Lange, Juliette Lewis, and Nick Nolte.

Assembly Studios has become a key facet of the area’s entertainment industry, offering desirable infrastructure, with 19 state-of-the-art sound stages and other features. While the Doraville studio has welcomed many projects, the state’s overall success in the industry has fallen substantially.
