GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – Keke Palmer is traveling back to Georgia next month to film “I Love Boosters,” a captivating narrative that centers around a group of female shoplifters. This upcoming project promises to deliver a unique blend of humor and social commentary, drawing attention to the complexities of survival in today’s society.
Originally in production in Oakland, California, “I Love Boosters” is scheduled for filming in Norcross, Georgia, from October 28 to December 13. This information was shared with local union members of IATSE 479, which represents a broad range of crew members in the film industry.
The filming will take place at the headquarters of OFS, an optical fiber company that often leases its vast facilities for film productions.
The movie was created by Boots Riley, known for his distinctive storytelling style. Riley made waves in 2018 with his debut film, the dark comedy “Sorry to Bother You,” which was lauded for its satirical take on capitalism and race.
Following this success, he created the Amazon series “I Am Virgo,” a coming-of-age tale that further showcased his creative prowess. With “I Love Boosters,” Riley continues to explore themes of struggle and resistance, promising an entertaining and thought-provoking film.
In “I Love Boosters,” Keke Palmer takes on the role of Corvette, a character facing tough circumstances. Corvette finds herself squatting in an abandoned church kitchen, navigating life’s challenges with resilience and ingenuity.
Alongside a group of fellow female shoplifters known as the Velvet Gang, she resorts to “boosting” clothing items from department stores to make ends meet. The plot thickens when Corvette discovers that Christie Smith, the CEO of Metro Designer, has stolen one of her fashion designs.
This revelation ignites a desire for justice among the Velvet Gang, leading them to take action against the powerful figure, sparking what could be described as an unexpected revolution.
Palmer has a history of filming in Georgia, having participated in several notable projects over the years, including TLC’s biopic “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” in 2013, the 2019 comedy-drama “Hustlers,” and the Fox series “Star.”
Her return to the Peach State for “I Love Boosters” not only highlights the region’s growing prominence in the film industry but also reinforces Palmer’s established connection to the area.
