FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – One person has been arrested after a suspicious fire broke out late Wednesday at an abandoned bank building on Lakewood Avenue in southeast Atlanta, according to fire officials.

Crews responded to the former SunTrust branch and found flames inside the structure. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and searched the building, confirming that no one was inside at the time.

Investigators believe the fire may have been intentionally set. Authorities have not yet released details about the suspect or what charges are expected.

The vacant property is owned by St. Vincent de Paul Georgia and is slated for redevelopment, with plans for apartments and retail space, according to the organization.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
