GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – A Gwinnett County man was arrested after police said he attempted to break into multiple vehicles — and at one point entered an occupied home — while wearing only a tablecloth.
Gwinnett County police identified the suspect as Mackienzy Kahl, who was taken into custody following a series of incidents on Dec. 2 that began with a reported stolen vehicle.
According to police, officers initially responded to a report of a stolen vehicle believed to be in Kahl’s possession. Later that day, officers located the vehicle, but Kahl was no longer inside. Witnesses told police he had fled on foot. Officers also noticed signs suggesting Kahl may have been exposed to chemicals while inside the vehicle, though authorities did not elaborate on the nature of that exposure.
As officers searched the area, police said multiple 911 calls came in reporting a man matching Kahl’s description running through the neighborhood wearing only a tablecloth. Callers reported the man attempting to enter several vehicles.
During the incident, police said Kahl entered an occupied home and took the keys to a Mercedes-Benz before driving away. Officers quickly located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and took Kahl into custody without further incident.
Kahl was charged with burglary in the first degree, two counts of theft by taking, entering an automobile or other motor vehicle with intent to commit theft or a felony, loitering and prowling, and driving without a valid license, police said.
No injuries were reported, and police did not release additional details about what prompted Kahl’s alleged behavior or whether drugs or alcohol may have been involved.
The case remains under investigation.
