COBB COUNTY, Ga. – A Mableton man has been charged after police say he confessed to killing his girlfriend and burying her body in Atlanta.

Cobb County police said 56-year-old Cecil McCrary was arrested Tuesday after admitting to killing Tange Davis-Hutti, 45, who had been reported missing days earlier.

Davis-Hutti’s son contacted police Saturday, saying he had not heard from his mother since Oct. 9 — something he told officers was highly unusual. Using OnStar, he tracked her Chevrolet Equinox to a Lidl grocery store on Floyd Road but could not locate her.

While officers were speaking with the son at the store, McCrary arrived and told police he was dating Davis-Hutti. He said she had last been at his home and showed officers security video of her leaving his residence that night.

Detectives with the department’s Major Crimes Unit began investigating and grew concerned for Davis-Hutti’s safety. On Tuesday evening, they took McCrary into custody for questioning. During the interview, police said, he confessed to killing Davis-Hutti and burying her body in Atlanta.

Officers later found her remains at the location McCrary identified.

Police said McCrary was already out on pretrial release for a separate case from October 2024 involving kidnapping and aggravated assault charges connected to previous domestic violence incidents between him and Davis-Hutti.

“This loss devastates all of us,” Cobb County Police Chief Dan Ferrell said in a statement. “Our hearts are with her family, and we are reminded that behind every statistic is a person, a mother, a friend, a colleague whose life mattered.”

Ferrell added that the department remains committed to protecting those at risk and preventing future acts of domestic violence.

Police encouraged anyone experiencing abuse to contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or visit thehotline.org for confidential support. Local help is available through the YWCA of Northwest Georgia, which offers emergency shelter, counseling, and advocacy for survivors.
