The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office on October 14, 2025:
FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. – The Floyd County Police Department, in collaboration with The Polk County Police Department, recently conducted an investigation that resulted in the arrest of a registered sex offender, Garry D. Hand, 65, from Cedartown, Georgia.
Officers were made aware of inappropriate contact between G. Hand and a minor female, 14 years of age, at the beginning of August. Through further investigation, it was revealed that G. Hand had contact with multiple minor females and males throughout a span of several years. It became known to officers that G. Hand was grooming the minor females by buying them food, electronics, clothing, alcohol, vaping devices, and more.
On October 13, 2025, G. Hand was charged with trafficking of persons, photographing of minors by a registered sex offender, and grooming. His original charges in August were grooming, sexual battery, and child molestation.
We were grateful to collaborate with the Polk County Police Department to come to a resolution in this case. It is priority number one to keep our children safe.
This investigation is ongoing. If you have any additional information, please contact Officer Mallory Boatfield of The Floyd County Police Department at (706) 235-7766, or Sergeant Brandy Brady of the Polk County Police Department at (770) 748-7331.
