COBB COUNTY, Ga. – The remains of an Acworth man who disappeared last month after leaving home and later being seen at a metro Atlanta skate park have been found in Oglethorpe County and identified as 21-year-old Kenny Jackson Jr., the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.
The GBI said investigators in Oglethorpe County located unidentified human remains that were later positively identified as Jackson, who was reported missing Nov. 19. Authorities have not said when the remains were discovered, where in the county they were found, or what led investigators to the location. The GBI also has not released a cause or manner of death, saying the investigation is active and ongoing.
Jackson’s disappearance was first reported to the Acworth Police Department on Nov. 19, when officers were called to a home in the 3200 block of Blue Springs Trace, police said in a prior public information release. Jackson’s mother, Algunda Jackson, told officers she had not heard from her son and that he had left the residence around 2 p.m. that day.
Police said Ring doorbell camera footage corroborated her account, capturing Kenny Jackson Jr. leaving the home around the time she described.
Investigators later learned Jackson was believed to have traveled to Brook Run Skate Park in Dunwoody. Police said a friend told investigators he last saw Jackson there around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 19.
Jackson was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, police said. That vehicle was later captured by a Flock license plate reader camera in Oconee County at about 7:52 p.m. the same day—placing the car more than an hour east of Dunwoody and in the general region of where investigators would later identify remains in Oglethorpe County.
The GBI has not said whether the Hyundai has been located, whether foul play is suspected, or whether anyone has been questioned. Authorities also have not released any additional timeline details following the Oconee County camera hit.
The GBI said it will provide the case file to the appropriate prosecuting authority once the investigation is complete and asked the public to remain attentive for updates as investigators continue to work to determine the circumstances surrounding Jackson’s death.
