HENRY COUNTY, Ga. – A 49-year-old Stockbridge man has been charged with malice murder after police discovered his mother stabbed to death inside their Henry County home earlier this week, authorities said.
Stockbridge police arrested Desmond Riley on Tuesday after officers found 75-year-old Dianna Cleveland dead inside the residence at 109 Club Drive. Investigators said Cleveland had been stabbed multiple times and was believed to have been dead for several days before officers arrived.
Police were first called to the home around 10 p.m. Monday after a report of a suspicious man outside the residence. When officers arrived, they found Riley standing on the front lawn.
“The only thing he said initially was that his mother was deceased inside, and upon officers going in and verifying that that was the case, the subject was detained,” Stockbridge Police Maj. Ron Momon said.
Detectives continued processing the scene through the night and into Tuesday morning. Investigators believe the stabbing occurred sometime over the weekend.
Henry County Jail records show officers had previously been called to the home in late August for a domestic incident involving Riley. In that case, he was charged with simple battery and obstruction.
Riley was booked into the Henry County Jail on a charge of malice murder.
Police have not released additional details about a possible motive.
