Mitchell County, Ga. — A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting at a park that left two people injured, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities said Cornez Jackson, 17, of Albany, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Two 16-year-olds from Camilla were also arrested in connection with the incident. One juvenile faces charges including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a minor. The second juvenile was charged with tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a minor.
The shooting happened around 6:05 p.m. on April 7 near Toombs Park and Palmer Street. Investigators said the incident began as a fight between Jackson and a group of minors.
During the dispute, multiple gunshots were fired, and both Jackson and one of the 16-year-olds were shot and injured. Officials said they were transported to a local hospital, treated and later released.
Jackson was arrested April 9 and booked into the Mitchell County Jail.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing. The case will be prosecuted by the South Georgia Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
