CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. – Police are investigating a Christmas Eve burglary at a Carrollton trading card shop where more than $100,000 worth of rare Pokémon cards and sealed merchandise were stolen, authorities said.

The break-in happened around 5 a.m. Wednesday at Tag Collects on Bankhead Highway. According to sources, someone used a tow hitch ball to smash through the shop’s front door.

Surveillance video shows the suspect entering the store, bypassing the cash register, and heading directly to specific display cases. In less than two minutes, the person grabbed several high-value items before fleeing, Brown said.

Among the stolen merchandise were rare Pokémon cards and sealed boxes no longer available for retail sale. Brown said the thief took multiple “Umbreon,” or “Moonbreon,” cards valued at roughly $2,500 to $3,000 each, several Gold Star Rayquaza cards valued at a combined $14,000, and sealed boxes worth between $8,000 and $12,000 each.

The store owner told police he believes the suspect may have previously visited the store and specifically targeted the most valuable inventory. He said the person ignored lower-priced items and went straight for the highest-end cards.

It was noted that in recent days, several people had lingered in that area of the shop without making purchases or interacting with staff. One individual, he said, may have attempted to sell the store’s stolen merchandise.

Carrollton police are continuing to investigate the burglary and have not released a description of the suspect.

The store has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover repair costs and staff payroll following the break-in. Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact Carrollton police.
