UPSON COUNTY, Ga. – A Thomaston mother has been arrested after her infant was found with nine fractured ribs and a broken ankle, according to the Thomaston Police Department.
Taylor Mae Arrington was arrested Feb. 9 and charged with cruelty to children and aggravated battery.
The investigation began Jan. 9 when police received a call from a social worker at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta reporting the injuries to an infant patient.
According to a police report, the child had been seen by a pediatrician after the family contracted the flu. During that visit, Arrington told the doctor the child had been receiving bruises and bleeding during the night, the report states.
The pediatrician referred the infant to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where the child was taken on Jan. 7. Medical staff discovered the child had nine fractured ribs and a fractured ankle.
Police notified the Department of Family and Children Services, which sent a caseworker to the hospital. Investigators with the Thomaston Police Department also responded to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to begin an investigation.
Authorities have not released information about how the injuries allegedly occurred or whether additional suspects are being investigated.
The case remains under investigation.
