ATLANTA, Ga. – An attorney for the mother accused of murdering two of her three toddlers in an oven in 2017 asked that her plea hearing be delayed in order to interview a surviving child. The plea hearing was initially scheduled for the morning of June 2.

Lamora Williams, who was 24 at the time, is accused of murdering 1-year-old Ja’Karter and 2-year-old Ke-Yaunte Penn, who she claimed she left with a relative while she was at work. Reports say Williams’ mother believed Williams murdered the boys during a mental break after separating from their father. Both boys were found burned and crushed under an oven.

A cause of death reportedly could not be determined by a medical examiner. Williams now wants her surviving son, 8, to be interviewed before she considers a plea deal. According to the warrant, the charges state that the 24-year-old mother put Ja’Karter and Ke-Yaunte in the oven sometime between 11 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday.

Williams was arrested shortly after investigators found that her story about leaving her children with a cousin was false. They alleged that Williams killed the toddlers approximately one day before she called police and said she arrived home from work and found their bodies.

During a 911 call, Williams was concerned that she might be held responsible for the deaths. “When I came in, the stove was laying on my son, on my youngest son’s head, and my other son was laid out on the floor with his brains laid out on the floor. I don’t know what to do. I just came home from work,” Williams was heard saying in the 911 call. She also showed the bodies of her boys to the children’s father during a video chat.

Williams remains in the Fulton County Jail pending trial. Her charges include murder, child cruelty, giving false reports, and concealing the boys’ deaths. This case is currently pending in court.
