COBB COUNTY, Ga. – On February 13, 2024, a Cobb County grand jury indicted a married couple, Rosnie and Anilus Frederic, for stealing a woman’s urn and disposing of her daughter’s ashes in an unknown way. They face charges of removal of a dead body from a grave, malicious removal of a dead body from a grave, and abandonment of a dead body.

The victim visited the Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in January 2023 for the removal of her gallbladder. For comfort, she brought a teddy bear containing an urn of her stillborn daughter’s ashes.

When the stuffed animal vanished from her hospital room, she and her fiance assumed hospital personnel may have accidentally taken it. However, someone discovered the toy in the garbage later, sans urn.

The victim stated, “When we found out the news, we were very devastated as new parents, obviously. To me, it was sickening.

Like, why would you want to take someone’s urn and keep the ashes? Not even keep them, but take the urn and discard the ashes.”

Following a police investigation, Marietta officers arrested the Frederics, both hospital employees, in March 2023 for absconding with the urn and dumping the ashes in an unknown area. Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center officials spoke with Atlanta News First and confirmed that the Frederics were fired shortly after the incident.

The victims expressed, “The people have been caught, so that’s just a little bit of peace brought to us, you know.”

This case is pending in court.
