CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. – Two University of Georgia football players from opposite sides of the line of scrimmage faced recent reckless driving arrests in the county. Although detained in separate incidents, each remained in custody for approximately 90 minutes and received $26 bonds.

Athens-Clarke County jail records revealed that UGA Police arrested Johnathan Hughley on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, and charged him with reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. Arrest log information indicated that his detainment resulted from a single-car accident investigation.

Athens-Clarke County Police arrested Smael Mondon Jr. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, and charged him with reckless driving and racing.

Officials have yet to release more details about the incidents. These cases are pending.

Hughley, hailing from Fulton County, is listed as a redshirt freshman offensive lineman, and Smael Mondon Jr. is described as a senior linebacker from Paulding County.

Numerous players have faced driving-related arrests since January 2023, when a fatal wreck killed two individuals: UGA football player Devin Willock and staffer Chandler LeCroy.
