TELFAIR COUNTY, Ga. – A Telfair State Prison inmate will face prosecution for attacking the warden during a disturbance in a contraband shakedown on the morning of Wednesday, March 20, 2024. At approximately 11:30 AM, staff began searching a dorm room and attempted to initiate a lockdown.
The inmates refused to follow instructions, and during the struggle, an inmate assaulted the warden with a handcrafted weapon. The warden sustained minor injuries and sought treatment from the prison’s medical staff.
Officials utilized less-lethal munitions to gain compliance, and after the incident, they locked the facility down according to standard procedure. No one else sustained injuries.
The Georgia Department of Corrections revealed that the inmate who attacked the warden will undergo an investigation and likely face charges. This case remains active.
