COBB COUNTY, Ga. – An anesthesiologist assistant at Wellstar Vinings Health Park was arrested earlier this month after police said she took several vials of a powerful sedative without authorization.
Ariana Nicole Lyons, of Smyrna, was charged with misdemeanor theft and felony possession of a controlled substance. According to court records, she allegedly took 10 vials of Diprivan Propofol, a Schedule IV intravenous sedative, from the facility on July 7.
Each vial is valued at approximately $100, and the drugs were the property of Wellstar Health System. Investigators said the medication was not authorized to leave the operating room, let alone the building.
A doctor at the health park confirmed to police that Diprivan is not supposed to be removed from the operating room under any circumstance, according to the arrest warrant.
The case has been transferred to Cobb County Superior Court. Lyons was booked into the Cobb County Jail and released on a $2,000 bond.
