Warning: The following report describes alleged sexual violence.
COBB COUNTY, Ga. – Authorities arrested a 32-year-old Smyrna man on January 9, 2025, for trapping a woman inside a Cobb Parkway self-storage unit in Marietta on December 30, 2024, and sexually assaulting her between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM. Officials said the suspect, Steven Scott Obermeyer, who jail records list as homeless, and the victim knew each other.
Obermeyer remains detained at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond and faces felony charges of aggravated assault by strangulation, false imprisonment, rape, and a misdemeanor charge of battery. Records revealed that the suspect was on probation when he committed the crimes at NSA Storage.
Obermeyer reportedly prohibited the victim from opening the storage unit’s door and attacked her while she was stuck inside. Law enforcement disclosed that he stopped her from escaping by physically attacking her and forcing the unit’s rolling door closed by “mechanical means.”
During the incident, Obermeyer is accused of strangling the woman with his hands and physically, verbally, and sexually assaulting her inside the unit.
Officials have not disclosed who the unit belonged to.
