Police identify, searching for suspect in Acworth senior living credit card theft case

The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Acworth Police Department on January 18, 2024:

Update: The Acworth Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division continues to actively
investigate this case. Detectives have secured an arrest warrant for one suspect.

The suspect has multiple arrests for similar incidents in other jurisdictions across state lines. The suspect is identified as, Markinious Katrell Hartfield from New Orleans, Louisiana.

This suspect who is a male, presents himself as a female. The suspect is not in custody, if you have any information about Markinious Katrell Hartfield, please call 911.

Markinious Katrell Hartfield (42 YO B/M of New Orleans) is charged with:

  • Burglary 1st Degree (F) O.C.G.A. 16-7-1(b)
  • Financial Transaction Card Forgery (F) O.C.G.A. 16-9-32(b)
  • Identify Theft Fraud (F) O.C.G.A. 16-9-121 (a)(1)
  • Exploit of Disabled or Elderly Person (F) O.C.G.A. 16-5-102(a)

COBB COUNTY, Ga. – On December 18, 2023, Officers with the Acworth Police Department responded to Celebration Village, located at 4460 Celebration Boulevard in reference to suspicious activity on resident’s financial accounts. It was originally suspected that staff members may have been suspected of entering rooms to steal debit or credit cards.

This case was forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division. It was discovered that an unknown female who is not employed with Celebration Village entered the business wearing scrubs, similar to what current staff members may wear.

The suspect was seen on video checking resident’s doors and entering unlocked rooms. The suspect was later located on Wal- Mart surveillance cameras using victim’s debit and credit cards.

The suspect is described as a black female with dark hair. The suspect frequently wears face coverings in an attempt to conceal her face from recognition.

The suspect is also known to drive a white Toyota Corolla with temporary plates. It is suspected there may be more victims in this case.

Detectives urge residents of assisted living facilities to check financial statements and report any fraudulent activities. The Acworth Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to work this case.
