CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia woman has pleaded guilty in the 2022 death of a 2-year-old girl whose body was found mutilated inside a storage bin, according to prosecutors.
The Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office said Phillissa Diallo, 44, caused the death of Alyssa Rose Davis, 2, in December 2022.
Prosecutors said the child’s mother had left Davis in Diallo’s care for more than two weeks and remained in regular contact with her during that time, unaware that her daughter had died until law enforcement informed her.
Diallo was the only person caring for Davis in the days surrounding the child’s death, prosecutors said. Surveillance footage showed Diallo leaving the child alone for extended periods.
On Dec. 14, 2022, Diallo contacted police to report the child’s death. When officers responded, they found Davis’s body mutilated inside a storage bin. An autopsy determined the child had lethal amounts of acetaminophen and diphenhydramine, the active ingredient in Benadryl, in her system.
Diallo pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children and concealing the death of another. She was sentenced to 37 years, with the first 21 years to be served in prison.
