[NARRATIVE #1 on March 15, 2026]

On 3-15-26 at approximately 1549 hours I, Officer Tanner was dispatched to [1800 BLOCK] High St in reference to a domestic.

Upon my arrival dispatch had an open line and could hear a Mr. Derrick Voyles tell a Ms. [VICTIM #1] he is tired of her bullsh*t that he can never get any sleep and he has put up with her sh*t for years now. He stated he used to be a good guy and be fun. That she is playing miss innocent but this is her fault. Said he is tired of it either she can kill him or one of them is going to jail.

During this time myself and Officer White are attempting to find a route to reach the residence safely without being exposed due to knowledge of Mr. Voyles having a handgun. The front of the residence had several windows that were hard to see in prompting an Officer safety issue. Officer Gravell went up through the neighbors yard from the other side of the street and had the backyard covered. Officer White and I were unable to make it to the residence any other way so we went up the driveway with are firearms drawn and took cover behind a vehicle in the backyard.

At this time dispatch is still on the line with Ms. [VICTIM #1] and she informs them she is hiding in the room with her children and is unsure if Mr. Voyles is still there. Shortly after Mr. Voyles is heard again stating the infant child in the residence that he and Ms. [VICTIM #1] share need to go stay somewhere else because he is tired of her mooching off him. That she keeps him stressed and this is her fault. Mr. Voyles stated she needs to shut the f*ck up and let him rest.

Shortly after this Mr. Voyles stated he was getting dressed, he then exited the residence through the rear door with his hands up and was placed in handcuffs with no further incident.

I made entry to the residence and located the handgun, a black [REDACTED BY AGENCY] that Mr. Voyles was holding during his argument with Ms. [VICTIM #1]. It was found in the chair by the door he exited the residence from. I spoke with Ms. [VICTIM #1] and she advised me she came home from work and woke Mr. Voyles up and that upset him. She stated he got up grabbed his handgun and attempted to hand it to her and told her to kill him he was tired of dealing with her.

She stated she refused to take the gun and that’s when the argument got worse. He then started waving the gun around and cussing and yelling at Ms. [VICTIM #1]. She stated she feared for her life and was afraid to try to leave because he has been physically aggressive toward her in the past and she was worried he would use the handgun on her today.

Their child a [REDACTED BY AGENCY] were in the residence during the incident but Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated none of Mr. Voyles actions were directed toward the children. Ms. [VICTIM #1] and the children were visibly shaken up from Mr. Voyles actions. Several other firearms were located in the residence by Officer Gravell and Ms. [VICTIM #1] wanted them removed for safe keeping.

I went outside and gathered victim forms for Ms. [VICTIM #1] and was advised by Officer White that Officer Gravell had read Mr. Voyles his Miranda Rights. I asked Mr. Voyles if he wanted to tell me what happened. He stated he is not allowed to sleep. I asked what did he mean by this and he said every time he goes to sleep she finds a reason to wake him up and he goes to work and provides with only 4,5 or 6 hours of sleep. That is what upset him because he finally had enough. Mr. Voyles made no statements to me of wanting to harm himself.

He was placed in the back of my patrol car and transported to Floyd County Jail.

[NARRATIVE #2 on March 15, 2026]

This is a supplemental report to Officer Tanner’s initial report.

On March 15, 2026, at approximately 1553 hours, I arrived at [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in response to a call of a female scared of her boyfriend who had a gun and yelling at the female to kill him.

During the call out of Derrick Voyles, I did point my rifle at him as he exited the residence. Voyles complied with officers commands and surrendered. As officers entered the residence, the female, [VICTIM #1] told me the handgun was located on the couch near the back door. I could see the handgun and called Officer Tanner to secure it. Later Officer Tanner handed the handgun to Officer White, who then handed me the handgun for evidence.

While looking through the residence there was a rifle case in the back bedroom. Voyles was placed under arrest. When speaking to [VICTIM #1], she wanted us to take the other firearms for safekeeping. I collected three other firearms for safekeeping. The AR15, Mossberg and Glock were collected for safekeeping. The Springfield Armory handgun was the gun used in the crimes.

All firearms, magazines and ammo were booked into evidence at the Rome Police Department.
