On the above date and time, I (PFC Tucker) was dispatched to [1500 BLOCK] Doyle Rd in regards to a domestic between Grady Allen Turpin and his son ([VICTIM #1]). While en route, dispatch informed me that ([VICTIM #1]) stated that he was punched in the eye and he ran to his grandmother’s house. [VICTIM #1] stated that Grady and his mom ([WITNESS #1]) was now out in the yard arguing.

Upon my arrival, I spoke with [VICTIM #1] inside his grandmother’s house. [VICTIM #1] was laying on the couch, crying with a wet rag over his eye. I asked [VICTIM #1] what happened this morning. [VICTIM #1] stated that when he woke up for school, he could not find a pair of pants. [VICTIM #1] said that he told his dad (Grady) that he could not find any pants and Grady thought that [VICTIM #1] yelled at him. [VICTIM #1] said that Grady then grabbed [VICTIM #1] by the throat and began to choke him. [VICTIM #1] said that he pushed Grady off of him and then Grady punched [VICTIM #1] with a closed fist in the eye. [VICTIM #1] said that Grady then grabbed [VICTIM #1] in a head lock choking him again until he began to pass out. [VICTIM #1] stated that at this time his mom ([WITNESS #1]) then jumped on Grady and stopped him from continuing to choke him. [VICTIM #1] stated that he could not breathe at all when Grady was choking him either times.

I observed red marks on [VICTIM #1]’s throat and a laceration below [VICTIM #1]’s right eye. [VICTIM #1]’s eye was also bruising and swelling. I called EMS to come and check on [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] stated that Grady has several firearms and has pulled them on his brother’s before.

I then spoke with [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] stated that she hit Grady to get him off of [VICTIM #1]. [WITNESS #1] was drinking an alcoholic beverage during the time of us talking and seemed to be under the influence so she was not making sense with a lot of what she was saying.

I then relocated to the house where Grady was at. Grady was on the front porch. I placed Grady in handcuffs for officer safety. Grady stated that [VICTIM #1] would not get up for school this morning so the two of them began to get into a verbal argument. Grady stated that [VICTIM #1] then charged at him so Grady began to choke him. Grady said that [VICTIM #1] then pushed him off of him so Grady punched him with a closed fist in the eye. Grady said that he is just having a hard time right because his wife ([WITNESS #1]) keeps getting high on prescription medication and drinking. I then advised Grady that he was under arrest and searched him incident to arrest.

EMS arrived on scene and began to speak with [VICTIM #1].

I then placed Grady in the back of patrol car 86 and transported him to the Floyd County Jail where he was booked and medically cleared. A DFCS Referral has been made.
