FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. – A Georgia man is facing felony charges after authorities say he allowed a known aggressive dog to attack a 3-year-old child, leaving the toddler with severe injuries.
The incident occurred on Feb. 10 at a home on Davis Street in Rome, according to police reports. Deputies said Daniel Ray Baldwin, 39, of Lindale, knowingly allowed the child to be around a dog named JJ, despite prior knowledge of the animal’s aggressive behavior and that it would attack.
Due to Baldwin’s negligence, the dog attacked the child, causing deep lacerations to the arm and puncture wounds to the leg, investigators said.
Baldwin was arrested and charged with felony cruelty to children in the second degree and misdemeanor reckless endangerment.
He was booked into the Floyd County Jail, where he remained as of Monday on a $7,900 bond.
Authorities have not provided an update on the child’s current condition.
