On July 26th, 2025, I was dispatch to [10 BLOCK] Anders Rd Rome Ga 30165 in response to a child that had ingested THC gummies.
Upon my arrival, Fire and EMS were already on scene. When I approached the ambulance, I saw a young female, later identified as, [REDACTED BY AGENCY], in visible pain and almost convulsing. There was a woman standing outside the ambulance talking to EMS, later identified as the mother/complainant, [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] said that she was inside the residence laying down in another room. [WITNESS #1] said that her daughter, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] frequently goes in and out of the rooms of the house due to her autism, according to [WITNESS #1]. She then stated that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] came up to her and said that her stomach hurt and that she was wobbling on her feet, struggling to stand. When [WITNESS #1] asked her what was wrong, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said that she ate an orange gummy and handed [WITNESS #1] the bag from inside the grandmother/arrestee’s purse, Melissa Williams.
I got [WITNESS #1]’s phone number and told her to go with EMS to be with her daughter. Before EMS left, the driver told me that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had been throwing up on herself while laying on the stretcher in the back of the ambulance.
I knocked on the door and Melissa came out in nothing but a night gown. I asked her what was going on and she stated, I was asleep in my room. Melissa then went on to state that she typically locks her door so that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] cannot get in. Melissa then stated that she left her gummies where [REDACTED BY AGENCY] could get to them. I advised her that she was about to be placed under arrest. Melissa asked if she could put underwear on and I said yes.
After Melissa came back out, I placed her under arrest, put handcuffs on her, checked them for fit, double locked them, and due to her attire choice, a search incident to arrest was not warranted. Melissa however did lift her night gown up to show that she did not have anything on her that would be contraband.
I placed Melissa in the back of my patrol vehicle and activated my rear camera. She was transported to Floyd County Jail, where she was booked on a fact sheet for Cruelty to Children in the second degree.
Back seat cleared post arrest.
