FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – On a somber yet celebratory Tuesday, the City of South Fulton and College Park came together to honor the life and legacy of Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan. He was known for his significant contributions to the hip-hop genre, and his passing has left a void in the music world and his community.

The memorial service for Rich Homie Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, was held at the World Changers Church International on Burdett Road. This event was designed not just as a farewell but as a “true celebration of life.” Although the service was open to the public, attendees were required to reserve tickets due to the high demand, with all three viewings having been “sold out.”

The commemoration extended beyond the church service, with a free after-party at The Bank, a club-like venue on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW. This after-party, also reserved for ticket holders, was set to run from 3:00 PM until the DJ “taps out,” allowing fans and friends to celebrate Rich Homie Quan’s life in a fitting manner.

Rich Homie Quan, 33, was a significant figure in the Atlanta rap scene, achieving notable success in the 2010s with hits like “Walk Thru,” “Lifestyle,” “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” and “Type of Way.” His collaborations with other prominent Atlanta artists, such as Young Thug, 2 Chainz, and Gucci Mane, cemented his status as a major player in hip-hop.

Initially, Quan’s father and manager, Corey Lamar, had expressed a desire for a “quick, private service” to “start the healing process.” However, he later reconsidered, emphasizing the importance of the public’s role in Quan’s career: “Without the fans, there would be no Quan,” Lamar stated.

The service attracted a large crowd, with fans lining up early outside the World Changers Church International for the public viewing. The event had a significant impact on local traffic, with several road closures in effect throughout the day.

From 10:00 to 10:30 AM and again from 1:30 to 2:00 PM, major intersections on Old National were closed, including Burdett Road, Pleasant Hill, and others. South Fulton drivers were advised to expect delays, and there was a heightened police presence to manage the crowd and ensure safety.

While the official cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, a police report revealed that he was found unresponsive on the kitchen floor by his brother around 3:00 PM on September 5. His brother then moved him to the couch, and he was later discovered deceased by his girlfriend after she returned from dropping off their child at school.

The 911 call made by his girlfriend was released to the public. He is survived by his five children, father, and girlfriend.
