FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – Two Atlanta Braves players and the team mascot, Blooper, recently visited Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Scottish Rite Hospital to spend time with young cancer and blood disorder patients. Pitchers Tyler Matzek, #68, and Spencer Strider, #99, spoke with the children, made them laugh and smile, and tried to lift their spirits.

Matzek and Strider went above and beyond to connect with the delighted and grateful patients. The children and hospital employees made unforgettable memories and posed proudly with their new friends for photographs.

Matzek was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the first round of the 2009 MLB draft and debuted in the league in 2014. He stepped away from the major leagues from 2015 until 2020 when he pitched for the Braves. His win-loss record is 16-21, with 272 strikeouts.

Strider was drafted by the Braves in the fourth round of the 2020 draft after playing for the Clemson Tigers. He debuted in the league in 2021 and holds a win-loss record of 32-10, with 495 strikeouts.
