FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – Individuals interested in working on movies, especially behind the scenes, may be thrilled to learn that the Georgia Film Academy is offering many exciting opportunities.
Vice Chancellor Scott Votaw stated, “The Georgia Film Academy is actually a collaboration of the university system of Georgia [and] the technical college system of Georgia; we also work closely with the Department of Education. We create [a] curriculum for film and television, for the entertainment industry, [and] for the high-demand workforce initiative, [which] there is a lot of demand for film workers here in the state of Georgia.”
Votaw expressed that demand for crew members who work behind the scenes is extremely high right now.
He said, “The workforce is primarily below the line: your grips, electric, set, construction, art department, costuming, accounting, and office management.” He explained that people from all backgrounds and skill levels can succeed in the film academy’s programs.
With 25 years of experience in the entertainment field, Votaw returned to his home state of Georgia to assist the next generation of industry members in achieving their goals.
He stated, “When I started, I was sweeping stages, getting coffee, and doing what they needed me to do. I never would have guessed that I would have the career I’ve had or that I am here today doing what I’m doing. I didn’t see that back then when I just started. And if you have a passion, that will drive your career.”

The school offers an array of career paths, such as film and television production, film and television post-production, digital entertainment, Esports, and game development, with a curriculum that includes set construction, scenic painting, motion picture set lighting, grip and rigging, film accounting, editing, sound design, hosting and casting for digital entertainment and Esports, and more.
