FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – Georgia taxpayers can expect to see extra funds in their bank accounts in the coming weeks as the state begins distributing one-time tax refunds authorized by recently passed legislation.

The disbursement follows the enactment of House Bill 112 during the 2025 legislative session and marks the third such refund effort in recent years. State officials said the refund is made possible by a combination of conservative fiscal management and sustained economic growth, resulting in a budget surplus for the third consecutive year.

Eligible residents who filed their 2023 and 2024 state income tax returns on time and have no outstanding tax liabilities will automatically receive the refund. The payments are set at $250 for single filers and married individuals filing separately, $375 for head-of-household filers, and $500 for married couples filing jointly. The amount issued to each taxpayer will be based on their 2023 tax liability, up to the maximum limits set by filing status.

This latest round of refunds continues a trend established by earlier disbursements in 2022 and 2023, as state leaders aim to return surplus funds to residents rather than expanding government spending.

Alongside the refund, House Bill 111—also passed this year—implements another cut to the state income tax rate. Georgia’s tax rate will drop from 5.39% to 5.19%, marking the second expedited reduction since 2022 under a multi-year plan to lower the burden on individual earners.

The Georgia Department of Revenue is coordinating the refund process and has provided an online eligibility tool through the Georgia Tax Center to assist residents. Taxpayers can use the tool by entering information such as their filing year, Social Security number or tax identification number, and their federal adjusted gross income to verify their eligibility.

Refunds will be distributed automatically, with most eligible taxpayers receiving their payments without needing to take further action. Additional information and refund tracking tools are available through the Georgia Department of Revenue website.
