FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – A murder suspect who was caught on camera escaping custody from Grady Memorial Hospital over two weeks ago has been captured. A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department said that Georgia State Patrol and the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force aided in 32-year-old Carwon Marquavis Redding’s arrest on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
Further details regarding how and where Redding was located have not yet been released; however, police revealed that he was detained by Zone 4 officers who work in southwest Atlanta. He was transported to Fulton County Jail, where his co-defendants, Jaquelynn McCleskey, 34, and Tyrus Pippin, 38, were processed in June.
Redding faces charges, including felony murder, for a shooting that occurred at 1980 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway on April 14. The shooting reportedly injured two men, and one later died from his injuries at the hospital.
When MARTA Police officers initially apprehended Redding on September 26, 2024, rather than taking him directly to jail, they transported him to Grady detention for unnamed treatment. The following day, as Atlanta reeled from Hurricane Helene’s damage and massive power outages, Redding made his escape.
Security footage showed the suspect running from the medical facility in a blue hospital gown and bright yellow socks. This case is pending.
