FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – One of the most influential, top-selling musicians in history, Usher Raymond IV, who became an Atlanta resident at age 12, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at a local higher education institute. Atlanta’s Emory University will welcome Usher on stage at its 180th commencement event on Monday, May 12, 2025.
During the ceremony, the university will also award Usher an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree for his community outreach and philanthropy. The Grammy Award-winning artist works to help the youth in several ways, such as his nonprofit organization, Usher’s New Look, and his partnership with Emory.
Usher is listed as the founding chair of the nonprofit since 1999. Emory University revealed that Usher’s New Look has helped over 55,000 under-funded teenagers identify and achieve their dreams and goals, develop their character, complete their education, and pay it forward by helping others.
In 2023, Usher delivered the commencement speech and was awarded an honorary doctorate at Boston’s Berklee School of Music.
