Today, April 3rd 2026, I, Deputy Michael Healy #541, along with Deputy Chris Jump #545 responded to the report of a physical domestic in the area of [200 BLOCK] Nugget Lane at approximately 1839 hours. The caller informed Gilmer County Dispatch that a [VICTIM #1] beat up her daughter, Christal Cartos, and threw her to the ground twice. We responded Code 3 (Lights and Sirens Active) to the residence.
Upon our arrival at approximately 1851 hours, I exited patrol car #618 and observed a white in color RV with a white in color SUV parked out front of it. After doing so, a female exited from the SUV and approached me. I asked her what was going on, to which she didn’t know. She did state that she heard arguing coming from the neighboring residence.
While standing in the driveway of [200 BLOCK] Nugget Lane, I observed a silver in color SUV leaving the driveway of [600 BLOCK] Nugget Lane. As the vehicle came up the road, they stopped in front of the driveway at [200 BLOCK] Nugget Lane. Once the vehicle stopped, Christal Cartos, and her mother, [REDACTED] exited from it and approached me.
While they exited their vehicle, Deputy Jump arrived on scene and parked patrol car #524 behind me. Once Deputy Jump arrived on scene, a female subject, later identified as [WITNESS #1], approached the scene from her residence that sits in between [200 BLOCK] Nugget Lane and [600 BLOCK] Nugget Lane. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] began shouting at Mrs. Cartos stating that she wants her removed from the property.
I stepped in and informed her that we would not be inciting any arguments and Deputy Jump began gathering information from her. While Deputy Jump was speaking with her, I went to speak with Mrs. Cartos. At the time of speaking with her, she was hysterically sobbing and gathering any information was difficult. From what I was able to gather, is that [VICTIM #1] had attacked her and threw her to the ground.
During this she claimed that Mr. [VICTIM #1] had damaged her hands. Upon inspecting her hands, the left hand appeared severely bruised with a dark purple color beginning at her mid-forearm and continued down throughout the hand. The hand was also swelling significantly. Her right hand appeared to have a similar color, but was only from her wrist down throughout the hand.
After gathering this information from her, [REDACTED] informed me they were going to take her to the hospital, to which I agreed due to the apparent severity of her injuries. After Mrs. Cartos and Mrs. [REDACTED] left the scene, I approached Deputy Jump and Mrs. [WITNESS #1]. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] informed us that her grandfather, [VICTIM #1], had been stabbed by Mrs. Cartos and that she also slashed Mr. [VICTIM #1] tires on his car.
Mrs. [WITNESS #1] stated that she didn’t visibly see the altercation happening, but she could hear Mr. [VICTIM #1] and Mrs. Cartos having an argument. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] stated that she could hear Mr. [VICTIM #1] repeatedly telling Mrs. Cartos to get away from him. She stated that at this point Mrs. Cartos stabbed Mr. [VICTIM #1] in the stomach and followed him around his car stabbing the tires. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] yelled for the two of them to quit fighting and screaming at each other.
After this, Mrs. [WITNESS #1] stated that Mr. [VICTIM #1] drove his car down to her house. Mr. [VICTIM #1] requested that Mrs. [WITNESS #1] photograph his stomach and the stabbed tires on his car. After receiving this statement, she informed us that Mr. [VICTIM #1] ran off in the woods after speaking with her and that she didn’t know where he went, or what direction he could’ve gone in. I asked Mrs. [WITNESS #1] if she would be willing to fill out a statement form, to which she agreed.
While she did this, I informed her we would begin looking for Mr. [VICTIM #1] around the properties due to us not knowing the severity of his wound. Deputy Jump and I then began searching the sheds on the property with negative findings. After searching the grand daughters property.
We went to the address of [600 BLOCK] Nugget Lane where the assault took place. Upon us arriving at the address, we observed two white in color RVs parked in front of each other on a graded dirt lot. The door to the first camper was left open, so Deputy Jump checked inside to ensure Mr. [VICTIM #1] was not inside, with negative findings.
After, we checked the other camper on the property but the door was locked. Around this time, Sergeant (SGT) Mellisa Blaylock #551 and Corporal (CPL) Zachary Weaver #518 arrived on scene and Deputy Jump requested that a drone be put in the air to assist with locating Mr. [VICTIM #1].
While we were waiting for the drone team to locate Mr. [VICTIM #1], SGT Blaylock called the on call detective, Trevor Stanfield #596. Detective Stanfield advised that he would be responding to the hospital to make contact with Mrs. Cartos. After several minutes of waiting, Deputy Stacy Weaver #528 advised that she had located Mr. [VICTIM #1] laying down in the woods several feet away from the last camper.
Deputy Jump walked into the tree line and made contact with the him. Upon making contact with him, Deputy Jump placed him into hand cuffs. Once Mr. [VICTIM #1] was secured, we escorted him out of the woods and back on to the dirt area next to the RVs. I then asked Mr. [VICTIM #1] what had happened.
Mr. [VICTIM #1] informed me that when he got back to his property after work, he drove up the driveway of [600 BLOCK] Nugget Lane. He exited his vehicle and began picking up trash that was laid on the ground next to the first camper. While he was cleaning, Mrs. Cartos exited the first RV and began accusing him of taking her lighter. He then stated that she approached him and standing in front of him, she pressed a small paring knife into his abdomen. I asked if I could take a look at his wound, to which he agreed.
Upon lifting his shirt, I observed a small stab wound approximately half an inch wide next to his belly button. Mr. [VICTIM #1] advised that he was not badly hurt. At this time I read Mr. [VICTIM #1] the Miranda Warning, to which he agreed. I then asked him what happened after she stabbed him, to which he stated that he grabbed her right hand and began wrestling her away from so that he wouldn’t be further injured.
Once he got away from her, he claimed he got back into his car and while doing this she stabbed his tires. He then drove away from her down to his grand daughters house. Upon reaching his Mrs. [WITNESS #1]’s residence, he asked her to photograph his injuries and the damage done to his vehicle. He then walked off into the woods.
I asked Mr. [VICTIM #1] why he would feel the need to walk off into the woods when he heard that law enforcement would be heading to his property. He stated that he always runs off when law enforcement arrives and doesn’t really know why he does it.
Mr. [VICTIM #1] was then walked down the road to a med unit that was on standby waiting for us to locate him. Mr. [VICTIM #1] was checked out by the med unit and he refused medical services. After this, Mr. [VICTIM #1] was placed into the rear seat of patrol car #618 while we awaited Detective Stanfield and Detective Perigo to arrive on scene.
Once the Detectives arrived, Detective Stanfield interviewed Mr. [VICTIM #1] while Detective Perigo went up to the RV’s to attempt to find weapon. After Detective Stanfield and Detective Perigo were finished, we all went back to Mrs. [WITNESS #1]’s residence. While at the residence, Detective Stanfield informed me that Mrs. Cartos admitted to stabbing Mr. [VICTIM #1]’s tires. After the Detectives were finished speaking with Mrs. [WITNESS #1], Mr. [VICTIM #1] was released from his temporary detention.
Christal Cartos will be charged as follows:
O.C.G.A 16-5-21 Aggravated Assault
