On January 7, 2025, Detective Kirk Champion of the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, was provided specific information by Probation Officer Brett Davis, which specified victims [REDACTED BY AGENCY] having been possible victims of an assault that resulted in serious injuries, to include both victims’ hands having been hit with a sledgehammer by an unknown assailant. Officer Davis relayed information that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had contacted him to request a transfer of probation, and when asked why, he explained the incident which is now being investigated. Detective Champion, Detective Jeffery Shelton, and other law enforcement agents/officers traveled to Hall and Forsyth Counties to interview the victims.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] received medical treatment while being hospitalized at Grady Hospital on January 4 and 5, 2026, for the injuries to his hand, but told the hospital that his Jeep had fallen on him. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] provided a portion of these records to Detective Champion. The discharge paperwork from [REDACTED BY AGENCY] medical records stated that his primary diagnosis was a “hand injury, right initial encounter including open displaced fracture of shaft of metacarpal bone.”
