On 3/9/26 at approximately 0708 hrs I was dispatched to Altama Ave and Altama Connector for a light pole being down in the roadway.
I observed a light pole that had been struct by a vehicle prior to Officer’s arrival. Officer’s noticed that there were skid marks at the impact where the base of the pole was, all the way until the light at Altama Connector and Altama Ave. While Officer’s were removing debris out of the roadway another Officer followed the skid marks looking for a vehicle with partial damage to the front end.
Officer’s were given a partial plate number starting with SM out of Ga. A dark colored Ford Fusion with 2 flat front tires and damage to the front end on the left hand drivers side was seen off of Village Cir approximately half a mile away from where the pole was hit. The Ford was seen with no license plate located on it.
Officer’s got out with a black female that was seen near the gray Ford Fusion. The female stated that she was the driver and when asked where her license plate was located she stated that she had taken it off and placed it inside the vehicle. The black female was identified as Alaina Jordan who stated that she always took her license plate off when she gets out.
When asked what had happened in the morning prior to Officer’s speaking with her she stated that she knew what had happened. Jordan stated that she was dropping off a friend in the morning near Altama Ave and Altama Connector, when it was foggy and she couldn’t see that well driving. Jordan stated that she thought she had hit the curb and that was all, but knew she made contact with something and drove home.
Jordan was brought back to where the incident occurred and was placed under arrest. Jordan was advised what she was being arrested for and why. She was placed in the rear of my patrol with the rear camera active after being searched.
Jordan was arrest and cited for Duty to report accident resulting in injury, death, or property damage (O.C.G.A 40-6-273).
(O.C.G.A. 40-6-273) states: The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to or death of any person or property damage to an apparent extent of $500.00 or more shall immediately, by the quickest means of communication, give notice of such accident to the local police department if such accident occurs within a municipality. If such accident occurs outside a municipality, such notice shall be given to the office of the county sheriff or to the nearest office of the state patrol.
Jordan failed to give notice of such accident to the local police department by the quickest means of communication.
Ga Power was unable to give an estimate price of the downed light pole. Officer’s estimated the light pole to be worth $2,000.
Pictures of the pole and skid marks have been uploaded to evidence.com as well.
