On 02/18/2024 at 0039 hours dispatch advised me there was a gunshot victim being transported by friends to the Brunswick hospital, that were at the time on Hwy 17 passing Fairway Rd. I was advised shortly after that the caller and victim were near Wildwood Rd. and Glynn Ave. Once Ofc. Sarti #229 and I arrived at the hospital, we saw the victim was already being treated in Trauma room 2. We immediately went to the front of the hospital where Ofc. Sarti secured the vehicle for CID that was used for tranport, while I talked to the three others involved that were in the vehicle.
When making contact with other witnesses/persons involved, they identified themselves as:
-[VICTIM #1] (Front Passenger Seat)
-[VICTIM #2] (Driver)
[REDACTED BY AGENCY]
I then asked [VICTIM #2] what happened, to which he stated the following:
The four went to the Country Inn & Suites to meet with friends for a small party in their room. When arriving they backed in a parking spot on the right side of the hotel. Once no one came to the door to let them in, they called their friends and found that they were at Waffle House on Perry Lane Rd. Once getting back in the vehicle to pull out of the parking lot to meet friends at the Waffle House, they heard gunshots and left the scene. Once getting out of the parking lot they found that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] (victim) was shot in the back of the head and unconscious.
[VICTIM #2] immediately started driving to the Brunswick hospital, while someone else called 911 to notify them of the emergency. When asking them what caused them to get shot at, they stated nothing had happened and there was no altercation that had taken place to cause this. When asking if they had seen the shooter, or where he possibly came from they stated no. When asking where they thought the shots came from they seemed unsure, but when pulling out my phone and showing them the hotel on my maps. They pin pointed an area towards the right rear corner of the side parking lot. Once relaying this information to officers on scene of the shooting, they advised that shell casings were found.
Being that all three individuals were in the same room beside each other when being questioned, they all correlated the same statements.
At this time I was standing by for further direction from Lt. Leska #136. Once enough units were available Lt. Leska #136 directed them to meet at the rear of the hospital for transportation to the Glynn County Police Department. While waiting, I made contact with [REDACTED] (father of [VICTIM #2]/vehicle owner of the Chevrolet Impala that was shot at) who stated he told his son not to hang out with this crowd. When asking what he meant by that, he stated [REDACTED BY AGENCY] brother had just been shot on Monday 02/12/2024 on Altama Ave. When asked if he knew of any gang affiliations, he stated he did not know for sure.
Once all parties involved were transported, I stayed by with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] till Heartland EMS arrived to transport him to Shans hospital in Jacksonville, FL. While waiting [REDACTED] arrived to see her son, which is where I retrieved his and her information. Heartland then arrived and transported [REDACTED].
