Upon arrival, I was met at the front door at [REDACTED BY AGENCY] by Josiah Ansorena-Smith, B/M, DOB [REDACTED BY AGENCY] 2004. I requested that Smith step outside the residence to speak with my partner, Officer Curvin #119.

I then entered the residence and announced myself as Officer Ricketson with the Glynn County Police Department. At that time, [VICTIM #1], B/F, DOB [REDACTED BY AGENCY] 2004, exited the bathroom and appeared extremely emotional and upset.

I asked Ms. [VICTIM #1] to explain what had occurred. [VICTIM #1] stated that Smith was a friend she had known for several years and that they had been involved in an on-and-off intimate relationship. She advised that Smith had come to her apartment earlier that day to spend time with her. [VICTIM #1] stated they were sitting on the couch when her phone began ringing and displayed another male’s contact information. She stated Smith became jealous and aggressive, grabbed her phone from her hand, and refused to return it.

[VICTIM #1] stated that when she attempted to retrieve her phone, Smith placed his hands around her throat and pushed her back into the couch. She advised that Smith held her down for several moments before releasing her. After being released, [VICTIM #1] stated she was able to retrieve her phone and retreat into the bathroom, where she repeatedly told Smith to leave her apartment and called 911.

After speaking with Ms. [VICTIM #1], I exited the residence and made contact with Smith. I asked Smith to explain his version of events. Smith stated that [VICTIM #1] had fallen asleep on the couch and that he observed a male contact calling her phone. Smith admitted that he grabbed the phone and attempted to answer it to confront the male caller. Smith stated that when [VICTIM #1] attempted to retrieve her phone, he placed his hand on her throat and held her down on the couch. I asked Smith if [VICTIM #1] had instructed him to leave the apartment following the incident. Smith stated that she did tell him to leave, but he refused to do so.

Based on the victim’s statements, Smith’s admission, and the totality of the circumstances, Josiah Ansorena-Smith was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault and Criminal Trespass. Smith was transported to the Glynn County Detention Center and turned over to jail staff, where he was booked without incident. Warrants have been secured.
