On October 11th 2025 at about 12:26 PM, I responded to [600 BLOCK] Towers Avenue regarding an animal abuse report. Upon arrival, I was met by the complainant, [WITNESS #1].
[WITNESS #1] stated she has always been concerned for the dog named Brownie that resides at [600 BLOCK] Towers Avenue. She said the people who live there, a black male and female, never take care of the dog. She said the dog is always crying for help. She said there has been nobody home since Thursday, October 9th 2025. [WITNESS #1] said the dog was tied up on a very short cord and did not have any food beside what she would feed it.
I approached the South side of the residence which had a door in the carport which appeared to be the main entrance. The front of the residence looked unused and the front yard grass was overgrown. I could see and hear the dog from the side door. There was no answer at the side door when I knocked and rang the doorbell.
I focused my attention on the dog. I could see the dogs entire ribcage. The two bowls beside the dog did not contain any food, only water. The leash being used to secure the dog was an old runner style metal cable with an old red plastic coating which was missing in some places. The cable was twisted and snagged, leaving the dog with about 12 inches of play in the cable. There was no shelter, other than the sago palm the dog was under, which is toxic for dogs. The area immediately around the dogs reach had piles of feces.
Attempts to contact the owner of the residence, identified as Maren Durio. Her husband, [REDACTED], had been arrested by Glynn County Police Investigators a few days prior and then released from jail due to medical issues. Maren had not been observed at the residence for several days. Attempts to reach Maren by phone went unanswered.
Animal Control Officer Cassie Jernigan arrived on scene and agreed the dog needed medical attention and was being neglected. The dog was removed from the property.
The charge of Cruelty to animals will be taken against Maren Durio since she would have been the adult left responsible with the care of the animal.
