On December 15, 2024, I, Officer Shirley, was dispatched to [100 BLOCK] Leeswood Circle in reference to a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, I met with [VICTIM #1] stated that after hearing a loud bang, she exited her residence to find her vehicle, a Jeep Compass damaged and positioned almost against her home from the impact of Vehicle 2. She observed pieces of the driver-side taillight was broken and a dent in the bumper.
[VICTIM #1] and her mother informed me they had seen a silver Hyundai Sonata with significant damage in front of [100 BLOCK] Leeswood Circle. They observed a Hispanic male, approximately late 20s to early 30s, wearing a black leather jacket with some facial hair, exited the vehicle and entered the residence. According to them, the male slurred his words stating the issue would need to be addressed the following day.
Observations at the Scene:
I inspected the vehicles and observed:
- Significant damage to the front of the Hyundai Sonata, including a bent hood and deployed airbags.
- The rear of the Jeep Compass was also damaged.
- Open containers of alcohol, including a bottle of Buchanan’s Blended Scotch Whiskey and a bottle of red wine were found inside the Hyundai Sonata. The vehicle key was still in the ignition.
Attempted Contact:
I attempted to make contact at the residence of [100 BLOCK] Leeswood Circle. A Hispanic male identified as [REDACTED] answered the door but did not match the description provided by witnesses. I asked [REDACTED] to locate the driver of the Hyundai. He claimed the driver was asleep and stated that he and the other residents did not speak English well.
I observed multiple individuals moving about inside the residence and insisted the male retrieve the driver. When the male attempted to close the door, I placed my foot in the doorway for safety and to maintain sight of the individuals inside. Based on statements from two witnesses, I believed the suspect was inside. The male forced the door closed, causing me to remove my foot. He did not return. Shortly afterward, he opened a kitchen window and repeatedly stated the driver was asleep and refused further communication.
Investigation and Arrest:
Based on witness statements and the evidence at the scene, I determined there was probable cause to believe the male inside the residence was involved in the following offenses:
- Hit-and-Run
- DUI Less Safe
- Open Container Violation
- Driving Without a License
Backup officers arrived on the scene, and witnesses confirmed the male described earlier was still inside the residence. A passport matching the description of the male was located in the Hyundai Sonata.
Upon entering the residence, [REDACTED] directed us to the suspect’s room. The suspect, later identified as Pedro Perez, was located in a bedroom and placed under arrest without incident. He matched the description provided by witnesses, and the black leather jacket described was found on the floor next to the bed.
Perez displayed red markings on his face, believed to be from airbag deployment. His speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot, and there was a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his person. Perez was unsteady on his feet and required assistance from officers to walk, consistent with signs of impairment.
Perez was searched and escorted to the rear of my patrol vehicle. Officer L. Owens read him Georgia’s Implied Consent Notice over 21 for blood testing, and Perez agreed to provide a blood sample.
Transport and Evidence:
Perez was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance and blood testing before being booked at the Glynn County Detention Center. The Hyundai Sonata was towed by T&E Towing, and Driver Two was advised of the case status.
While at the hospital Head Nurse [REDACTED] advised Perez made multiple threats to me and my family in Spanish stating within 24 hours I would be dead and he was going to kill my family. Warrant for Terroristic Threats will be done.
An accident report will be completed in the GEARS system. All evidence, including the blood kit, will be properly logged and sent for testing.
Tow sheet was completed. Sovi completed. Arrest and Booking completed. Citations Completed.
Blood kit will be submitted into evidence. Body cam uploaded to evidence.com
