On Sunday June 4, 2023 at approximately 00:41 hours, Sergeant J.D. HOLLEY with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division was on patrol in the area of Rome Rd near Miller Ferry Rd. While traveling West on Rome Rd SGT. HOLLEY observed a vehicle traveling East on Rome Rd towards him at what appeared to be a high rate of speed.
SGT. HOLLEY activated his Stalker radar unit (serial # DD007951) and its displayed a speed of 106mph in the posted 55mph zone. SGT. HOLLEY turned around behind the vehicle as it passed and activated his emergency lights and siren, but noticed the motorcycle was not slowing down any. SGT. HOLLEY notified Gordon E-911 that he was in pursuit of a motorcycle.
The vehicle continued to Switch Connector where it did a u turn and began traveling back West on Rome Rd. The vehicle passed Webber Rd and SGT. HOLLEY got next to the vehicle and slowly moved towards it to slowly force it to the shoulder. The vehicle went into the grass shoulder, turned around and began traveling East on Rome Rd in the Westbound lanes.
SGT. HOLLEY turned around on the correct side of the roadway and caught up to the vehicle as it did another u turn at the intersection of Rome Rd and S Calhoun Bypass traveling back West. SGT. HOLLEY caught back up to the vehicle approaching Plainville Rd. SGT. HOLLEY again used his patrol vehicle to force the suspect to slow down and stop using the curb as a barrier.
Once slowing to a stop the suspect dropped the motorcycle on its side. SGT. HOLLEY and Deputy W. Giorgione performed a felony stop on the suspect and took him into custody. The driver was later identified as DAKOTA TUCKER. SGT. HOLLEY asked Mr. TUCKER if he needed any medical treatment and he refused.
While speaking with Mr. TUCKER SGT. HOLLEY and Deputy Giorgione could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Deputy Giorgione began standardized field sobriety testing with Mr. TUCKER. SGT. HOLLEY photographed where the motorcycle came to rest as well as his patrol vehicle. SGT. HOLLEY also notified the proper chain of command.
Mr. TUCKER was transported to the Gordon County Jail where he was booked and warrants were obtained for the following offenses: Fleeing/Attempting to Elude, Speeding, Reckless Driving, Improper U turn, Driving on the wrong side of the roadway, Suspended registration, and Driving Under the Influence of alcohol.
It was also determined that Mr. TUCKER had an active warrant for his arrest through Bartow County. Audio and video of the incident were recorded on SGT. HOLLEY and Deputy GIORGIONE’S in car camera. The photographs taken were uploaded to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Database.
