On Saturday December 10, 2022 at approximately 0010 hours, Sergeant C.A. CHILDERS with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division was on routine patrol in the area of Dews Pond Road and Lovers Lane Road Calhoun, Gordon County, Georgia when he observed a green Ford Escort turn North on Harmony Church Road with a cracked windshield measuring more than three inches in width and height. Sergeant CHILDERS followed the vehicle on Harmony Church Road, and waited until the vehicle turned on GA-156 towards I-75 before activating his emergency lights and advising Gordon E911 he would be stopping the vehicle.

Sergeant CHILDERS approached the passenger’s side of the vehicle, and witnessed all three occupants franticly smoking cigarettes. Sergeant CHILDERS asked for the driver’s license of the operator, Mr CHRISTOPHER CLOWERS. Mr CLOWERS provided a printed copy of his Georgia driver’s license. Sergeant CHILDERS asked the passenger, Mr ANTHONY TUCKER for his license, and he stated that he did not have it.

Sergeant CHILDERS asked if he could obtain Mr TUCKER’s name and birth date, and he provided such. Sergeant CHILDERS also obtained the rear passenger’s name and birth date (Ms EDIE WELLS). Sergeant CHILDERS explained that he was having a hard time hearing Mr CLOWERS speak, so he asked Mr CLOWERS if he would step back to the front of Sergeant CHILDERS’ patrol unit so Sergeant CHILDERS could explain why he was being stopped.

Mr CLOWERS met Sergeant CHILDERS at the front of the patrol vehicle, and Mr CLOWERS allowed Sergeant CHILDERS to pat him down for weapons. Sergeant CHILDERS then explained to Mr CLOWERS who he was, the department that he works for, and the reason for the traffic stop. Sergeant CHILDERS explained to Mr CLOWERS that he was going to issue him a written warning.

While running the provided IDs through Gordon E911 and writing the warning, Sergeant CHILDERS engaged in normal conversation and asked Mr CLOWERS where they were coming from and going to, and what his relationship was to the passengers, and if they all lived at the same address. Mr CLOWERS stated that they all lived at the same address, he provided two different addresses to Sergeant CHILDERS three different times, and Mr CLOWERS stated that he “wanted to play ding dings and she (Ms WELLS) wanted to see her aunt.”

Gordon E911 advised that Mr TUCKER had an outstanding warrant through Summerville Police Department, and upon arrival of another unit, Mr TUCKER was detained and the warrant confirmation process started. Sergeant CHILDERS began to finish writing the warning, and overheard Mr TUCKER state to another officer on scene that they just went to see “her friend.” Sergeant CHILDERS noted the way that Mr CLOWERS continuously changed his proper address, and the different itineraries for the passengers as being suspicious.

Sergeant CHILDERS then asked Mr CLOWERS for consent to search the vehicle. Mr CLOWERS granted verbal consent. Upon searching the vehicle, under the front passenger’s seat a black zip case was located that housed two hypodermic needles, one of which contained a dirty liquid substance. Sergeant CHILDERS then asked all of the occupants who the “rig” belonged to. All of the occupants remained silent.

As Sergeant CHILDERS retrieved a methamphetamine field test kit and cotton swab, Mr CLOWERS stated that he was “type B diabetic” then he stated he was “type A diabetic” before finally stating that he was “insulin dependant.” Upon testing the liquid it showed a positive indication of methamphetamine. All subjects were placed under arrest and transported to the Gordon County Jail. The suspect vehicle was turned over to list wrecker, Cherokee Salvage.

Upon arrival at the Gordon County Jail, Jailer FLEMING performed the routine strip search on Ms WELLS in which approximately 10 grams of Methamphetamine was located. Jailer FLEMING turned over the methamphetamine, and it was packaged and submitted as evidence. The seized substances were all photographed and submitted as evidence. Those photographs were preserved as evidence in the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office database.

Sergeant CHILDERS applied for warrants for Mr CLOWERS (Possession of Meth), Mr TUCKER (Possession of Meth), and Ms WELLS (Possession of Meth x2 and Crossing Guardline with Drugs).
