On May 26th 2026 at approximately 0352 Hrs. Officers with the Cairo Police Department responded to the area of 3rd St SE and 6th Ave SE in reference to a suspicious male walking through a neighborhood appearing drunk swinging a stick.
Upon arriving to the area, I officer Bowens while still in a seated position in my marked patrol vehicle made contact with the offender Sterling Williams, who appeared to be intoxicated and upset while carrying a large metal pole. I then asked Williams what was going on and he replied by saying statements that were hard to comprehend.
Williams then walked away from officers still talking to himself and still carrying the metal pole. Williams then turned around and returned back to the driver side door of my patrol vehicle on his own accord and as I was pulling off, Williams made the statement “I will buss you in the head!” While holding the metal pole in his right hand and raising it over his left shoulder while advancing towards me.
I Officer Bowens was in a seated position in my patrol vehicle with the driver door window down. I then exited my patrol vehicle and gave Williams several verbal commands to drop the metal pole while pointing my department issued taser 10 SN #T19E90143 at him, Williams complied by dropping the metal pole, but he picked it back up again and told me “No” after I told him to turn around and place his hands behind his back.
I then fired my department issued taser striking Williams several times ultimately have a successful connection bringing him to the ground. While on the ground Lt. Lamons and Officer Green with the Cairo Police Department removed the metal pole from Williams’s person and placed him in handcuffs.
Williams continued to act irate while in handcuffs he pulled from away from officers and refusing to get in the back seat of a patrol vehicle and while in the backseat of Officer Green patrol vehicle Williams began kicking the rear passenger window several times. Williams was then transported to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office and turned over to the jail staff. Taser prongs were collected and placed on property receipt #15260 in evidence locker #001.
