GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant located at 4915 Sugarloaf Parkway, just off University Parkway. The incident, which resulted in the death of a 43-year-old man, is believed to have stemmed from an argument between two individuals.
Law enforcement officials have taken 40-year-old Michael Todd of Hoschton into custody in connection with the shooting. Todd has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Police officers were dispatched to the scene Wednesday afternoon, where they discovered a 42-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound in the back parking lot of the McDonald’s. The victim was later identified as Donald Stewart, 43, of Commerce.
Investigators confirmed that the suspected shooter and a witness remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Initial findings suggest that the shooting was an isolated incident and that Todd was Stewart’s boss. The two reportedly engaged in an argument that escalated into gunfire.
While police have identified the individuals involved, details regarding the nature of the argument remain unknown. Additionally, authorities say the pair did not work at the restaurant.
A firearm was recovered at the scene, but investigators have not yet determined whether it was the weapon used in the incident.
According to police, the fast-food restaurant was not involved in the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.
