GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – A new entertainment venue aimed at tapping into the growing appetite for retro gaming and adult-friendly arcades has opened at the Mall of Georgia, marking the latest effort by Chuck E. Cheese’s parent company to expand its brand through immersive experiences outside its traditional family-focused locations.

Chuck’s Arcade, the latest concept from the iconic entertainment chain, blends classic arcade games with new virtual reality technology in a format designed to appeal to teens, young adults, and nostalgic gamers. The Buford location is part of a nationwide rollout that includes similar venues in Kansas City, New York, and several other states.

Positioned in a high-traffic section of the mall, the arcade features a rotating lineup of popular games from decades past alongside newer titles. Visitors can play a variety of games, including classics such as Dig Dug and Donkey Kong, as well as VR shooters and interactive claw machines. Prize redemption remains a key component, with offerings ranging from Bluetooth speakers and novelty lighting to collectible figures and plush toys.

A centerpiece of the Buford location is a glass-encased animatronic Chuck E. Cheese figure, a visual homage to the brand’s early days. Vintage decor and branded merchandise, including retro apparel and themed candy, round out the space, reinforcing the arcade’s nostalgic appeal.

Unlike traditional Chuck E. Cheese outlets, Chuck’s Arcade is tailored for a more mature audience. The games are set at adult-friendly heights and offer more challenging gameplay, and food service is notably absent at this particular location. However, other sites in the Chuck’s network offer pizza and refreshments similar to those found in the original restaurants.

The launch of Chuck’s Arcade is part of a broader $350 million reinvestment initiative by the brand’s parent company to revitalize its image following a 2020 bankruptcy filing. The investment has already transformed many Chuck E. Cheese restaurants with updated technology, redesigned interiors, and new content formats. Those changes laid the groundwork for Chuck’s Arcade, which company leaders see as a strategic extension of the brand.

The expansion also reflects larger shifts in the gaming industry. National surveys indicate that adults are now the dominant demographic among video game players. Nearly half of U.S. adults aged 18 to 50 report regular gaming, while participation among those under 18 has declined in the past two decades. The average gamer is now 36 years old.

Chuck’s Arcade aims to capture that trend, offering a social and interactive space for adults who grew up with arcade games and now seek experiences that combine nostalgia with modern entertainment. Company officials say this concept is a natural progression as Chuck E. Cheese leverages its arcade heritage to engage a new generation of players.

The company plans to rotate game selections and themes at each Chuck’s Arcade location, ensuring that no two venues are alike. Decorative elements like legacy animatronics and curated retro merchandise will also vary by site, creating a distinctive experience for returning guests.

As the brand looks to expand Chuck’s Arcade nationwide, the Mall of Georgia location serves as both a flagship and a testing ground for how the company can reconnect with its older fans while redefining what arcade entertainment means in a post-pandemic era.
